When the mind is heightened almost like a trance state and there is a focused state of consciousness which I may add is totally natural and the person that is hypnotised will adhere to suggestions as well as instructions. Courses and books are widely available which will help and show you how to perform hypnosis correctly as this is a useful practice.
If you are going to hypnotise a person the first thing you need to do is get the persons permission. There are also various types of hypnosis like self hypnosis which takes a while before you see results and then there is professional hypnosis which is used by doctors and psychiatrists etc and finally there is stage hypnosis which is more autosuggestion than true hypnosis.
A person that is going to be hypnotised needs to have comfortable as well as a quiet place and they are able to lie down or sit if they choose to and there must be absolutely no disturbances. It is important the person feels safe and secure dim the lights as well as switch telephones off. Very soft music can be played which blends in with the hypnosis.
A focal point needs to be established which helps the person to clear their thoughts and release any baggage and one can use a picture or you can take the person through meditation which will allow an altered state. Colours work well and effectively also for the purpose of cleansing as well as total relaxation.
The conscious state can easily be altered when one does breathing exercises like long slow deep breathing. On inhalation you can ask them to see bright light which is filled with good energy and on exhalation they can release all the bad energy. This way you are able to get the person to relax and feel comfortable. Relaxation should take place quickly and once this has the person is relaxed you can proceed with the meditation.
There are many different meditations which are very effective and the best ones are that have some type of water feature as well as flora and fauna. Staircases are also often whereby to the count of ten down the steps and then again when the meditation is complete there is a count of ten up the stairs. You will get the feel as to what works best for you and the person concerned and that will also avoid resistance.
Once the person has reached an altered state they are able to obey commands and follow any suggestion you make to them. If this is for therapeutic reasons then a record is taken of what transpired during the session. Or maybe the person want to break a bad habit like smoking or lose weight or they may want to do a past life regression in order to address issues in this life time. There are many valid reasons for people wanting this type of therapy.
Getting people to do things against their will it certainly not the purpose of hypnosis and there is nothing dangerous or evil about this practice either all hypnosis should be used for it to help people gain control over their own lives. Although I have experienced conversational hypnosis whereby a person makes statements as well as suggestions which influences another into doing what they want.
